Blogging and Other Stuff
I am currently on my 2nd week (actually, ending the 2nd week) of my bootcamp cohort, as mentioned in my previous entry. I’ve dabbled with Javascript many times, but somehow the bootcamp system made a lot of things clearer for me. There is a lot of searching around, a lot of reading, and a lot of code-alongs,1 and all of a sudden, everything became so much clearer to me. I’ve done self-learning Javascript through other means such as Skillcrush, Udemy, freeCodeCamp, and apps like Progate, Grasshopper, and Sololearn whenever I’m on the go before I turned to bootcamp mode, so there are some super basics that I naturally adapted, like commenting on every piece of code I write on my blank page file. I’ve had my first two successful weeks thus far, and I know it’s only going to get a lot more challenging as the weeks fly by.
This thing about tech blogs…
There is one thing that I kind of felt embarrassed about during the second week of my cohort. We are required to blog four times throughout the entire cohort, however, they prefer us blogging on the more public cloud-hosted blogging communities like Medium and Dev.to and are quite against building our own blog sites. I understand where they’re coming from, since everyone is a complete beginner, but when one of the instructors even said that "self-created tech blogs should be banned," I felt really, really embarrassed. I’ve had this personal tech blog for several years now2 that it’s rather difficult to just let it go, have it banned, and then transit myself to Medium or Dev.to. I actually created an account on Dev.to years ago, but never really taken the time to write any meaningful posts there. So in short, all of my specific blog posts about my bootcamp journey and everything else I’ve learned from the cohort will have to be on Dev.to. If you’re interested, please follow my Dev.to and stay tuned for my upcoming cohort-specific blog posts there.
When one of my instructors mentioned that, I kept quiet about this blog. After all, I worked hard building this blog from the ground up, just so I can self-learn how to build sites with WordPress. We’re not learning PHP in this cohort anyhow,3 so I decided to keep quiet about this blog from everyone else. Eventually, they will know that I already have my own blog, but for the sake of the cohort, I would have to blog on Dev.to, submit all my required blog posts to Dev.to, and all that jazz.
I’ll still be keeping Adrianne Codes as my "personal take" journal about coding and tech in general. It’s just way too difficult to let it go for the sake of the cohort anyway. Yikes!
What I’ve given up for Lent, er, bootcamp?
Not many, just a few:
- Mobile app games4
- J-Pop fandom5
- Writing (fan)fics6
- Limited focus on my online art classes. I still do some diary art from time to time, but I still love art.
Honestly, it’s also Lent season, therefore it’s Fish Fridays again until the week before Easter.
Until next time…?
Definitely yes. I will return when I can, but don’t expect me to return here right away.
Some Extra Notes...
- In my REPLs, of course…
- Since its old name, The NINPOJineous…
- We’re learning Ruby as the server-side language instead
- Okay, just a few…
- I’m still listening to J-Pop music, but not be active in fandoms. I also didn’t renew my FC (fan club) memberships of my favorite groups as well.
- I just won’t have time for them…
